How do I “fix” Logic Pro to get the best sound?

By using “Pre-Fader Metering” and the “Gain plugin.”

You want your meters to show you exactly how loud your tracks are before you use your faders, so switch to Pre-Fader Metering. Once you see how loud they are, use the Gain plugin to adjust the volume so the loudest tracks peak no higher than between -18 and -12 dBFS.

Once you have your levels set based on the meters, you can use the faders to adjust the relative level of your instruments using your taste.
