New Logic Studio!

Are you ready for this? Logic Pro 9, MainStage 2, Soundtrack Pro 3, Compressor 3.5, WaveBurner 1.6. Let me catch my breath!

Learn all about it at Apple.com

Now, I know you're excited. So am I. But does that mean you have to upgrade today? Absolutely not. My tech mantra is "The Beatles did it on a 4-track."

So you might want to give it some time and let the early adopters report all the bugs and installation issues and shout #FAIL all over Twitter.

I don't think you even realize what a burden it is to have to buy the new Logic Studio and spend hours and hours staring at a computer screen because it's my job...

Oh who am I kidding? You see right through me.

Actually, now would be the best time to buy a new MacBook Pro with Logic Studio to test the new system while keeping your old setup intact for getting real work done. I'm definitely not installing it on my main machine. Words to the wise.

I'll report back soon.

  1. I was shocked to see the release of Logic 9. Good post above, I like the Beatles mantra and believe in it (in this case).

    Kudos!

    1. Cheers! Yeah, my day just got turned upside down. But in a good way.

  2. Figures, I just Logic Studio 8 about 3 weeks ago.

    1. I ment to put a “bought” in there.

      1. I knew what you meant. 🙂

I know how you feel too. I’ve been there. But seriously, don’t sweat it at all. LP8 will produce the music you want! Remember my tech mantra above. No need to chase the latest upgrade.

I still say it’s best to put your head down and get the work done regardless of your tools. I know guys working professionally in pre-LP8 studios. You wouldn’t know it from listening.

LP9 is a shiny new toy and I can’t blame anyone for updating immediately. But ultimately, we use these tools to make music and that can be done using something much less sophisticated than LP9.

  3. Hey Graham,

Thanks for the wise advice on LP9. Never upgrade to a NEW ‘Any-Software until it is past the intiial release stage. (several long months)

Let the “gotta have the latest greatest” noobs beta-test it for “us” and Apple @ $199 upgrade price.

Have a great weekend.. ROCK ON!

    Howie

  4. Hey Graham!

Newb to Logic here, bought the new mac and was wondering if logic 8 tutorials work for 9? If not, when will you be releasing new tut’s for 9?

    1. Welcome aboard! Logic Pro 8 and 9 are very similar so the LP8 tutorials still work for LP9. LP9 mainly adds features and didn’t overhaul the app. We’ve got some LP9 tutorials dropping very soon. They’re being edited as I type this!

  5. Thanks for the warm welcome! I’m working on a recording certificate as well as a music business degree, but am in the very beginning stages. I’ve been a windows user for many years and am just making the switch to Mac’s. I’m going to be messing around with LP9 for awhile, but I know my school works with ProTools. Are these programs similar? I’m trying to get a more diverse background in the programs, so I can be more versatile when I get out of school.

    1. Logic Pro and Pro Tools might do a lot of the same stuff but they’re definitely different apps so you’ll need to learn both. But that’s not a bad thing since they’re both great apps. Check out our Beginner Series first.

  6. Great! Thanks again Graham! I’m looking forward to the LP9 tutorials!
