Part 6 of The Progressive Rock Method's How to Program and Edit Progressive Rock Drums makes clear the difference between half-time, regular-time, and double-time drum beats.
Brock uses illustrative examples that show both good and less-than-great implementations -- what to do and what to not do when utilizing these feels.
You will learn how to switch from one feel to another where the transition makes the two feels seem like they never changed yet always belonged. Your new understanding will also allow you to easily identify implementations in the music you like which will help you bring out the most in you own music. Best of all, it's easy and fun!
- By the end of this tutorial you will have a solid understanding of half-time, regular-time, and double-time feels
- Learn to identify how your favorite artists and drummers use these feels to make their music amazing
- You will learn how to apply these three feels into your own music, which has the potential to add a new dimension to your composition and drum programming
This was a great lesson Brock. Showing the different examples of half time and double time and mixing them together to give completely different feels to the music is extremely helpful. I also liked hearing the combinations that didn’t work. Great stuff!
It’s a cool trick to be able to apply three different feels to one riff without changing the tempo. Hope you get some good milage out of it!
