Welcome to the Film & Game Music Demo Reel with Logic Pro Training Program!
I'm Graham English, and I'll be your guide as we explore the Film & Game Music Demo Reel Training Program. In this course, you'll learn all about composing for films and games, music production, including how to use Logic Pro software and free third-party sample libraries to create professional-quality tracks in a variety of moods and styles. You'll also learn essential tips for building an online demo reel, composing melodies, mixing audio, and much more!
What is a film and game music demo reel, and why is it important?
A demo reel is like a calling card, helping you make connections with directors and game designers. It shows what kind of music you can create for specific projects or moods. It's also an example of your compositional skills in action, demonstrating the styles and orchestrations that you're best suited for—and most passionate about.
Here are just some of the things that you'll learn how to do in this course:
- Compose music in various moods (suspense, comedy, romance, action, etc.) and popular orchestrations (symphonic, epic, hybrid, electronic, etc.) on demand.
- Use Logic Pro's software instruments and editors to complete tracks in an efficient workflow quickly.
- Mix and master your tracks to cover multiple platforms.
- Showcase your work online to prove you can get the job done.
Goals, Assumptions, and Expectations
Your goal is to use this program to create about ten original compositions that you can publish online to show off your music to directors and game designers.
As a Logic Pro user, you should know the basics of using the software before diving into this course (You can review my Logic Pro Quick Start). However, you don’t need to be an expert, and you’ll learn many advanced tips and tricks throughout the program.
You don't need to be an experienced composer—even if you are an absolute beginner, you'll be right at home. Logic Pro can do a lot of the heavy lifting as you gain experience through applying what you learn.
I expect you to complete the Demo Reel Learning Projects. These templates include MIDI and stock instruments and plugins as examples and starting places. You get my example copyrighted compositions and similar copyright-free projects to use as templates for creating “soundalike” compositions unique to you. The program participants have to promise never to sue each other and use these projects as demos only. The process you will learn as a result of creating these demos will ensure that you can recreate a similar piece of music anytime you need.
Each Demo Reel Learning Project will include template training. You’ll learn to use these templates to create original compositions in various moods and orchestrations to showcase your professional composing skills. From start to finish, I’ll guide you through the sounds, concepts, orchestrations, sampling, etc.
Polish your work with feedback inside of Music Producer Lab
Included in your program is lifetime access to the Music Producer Lab Facebook group. Whenever you get stuck or need a hand, ask the community for help. Even if you don’t regularly use Facebook, it’s worth staying connected to other composers in the Lab community.
Share your demo reel promotionally and professionally
You’ll also learn how to share your work online for free and gain social proof of your compositional skills, plus premium services when you need professional security and exclusivity.
In part 1 of this program, I’ll help you prepare to use the project templates, share which free sample libraries to download, and give you other resources to help you in your film and game music career.
