Channel Strip Controls

From top to bottom, these are the controls in a channel strip:

  • Setting - use this to load/save settings for entire channel strips (EQ, FX, etc.)
  • Channel EQ - adjust a channel's EQ settings (to do so, double-click the window)
  • Insert slots - up to 15 effects may be inserted (to add one, click on one of the empty boxes)
  • Sends - route the signal to an aux channel (e.g., a shared effect, like reverb)
  • Send level knob - controls how much of the signal is sent to the aux channel
  • Input slot - for audio channels, this sets the source from where the audio is being received (which channel of your audio interface); for a software instrument, this is where a specific instrument is selected
  • Output slot - send the sound out to either a bus or a physical output
  • Group slot - sets which group to which the channel belongs (if any)
  • Peak level display - shows the highest output level from the channel
  • Pan/Balance knob - sets where in the stereo field the signal is heard
  • Level meter - a realtime visual feedback for the audio level
  • Volume fader - sets the playback volume for the channel
  • Solo - solos and unsolos the channel
  • Mute - mutes and unmutes the channel
  • Input Format button - a visual reference for whether the channel is mono, stereo, or surround
  • Record Enable button - arms the channel for recording
  • Bounce button - bounces a channel's output to an audio track
  • Automation Mode - set a channel's automation mode

NOTE: which elements are shown can be configured by setting them accordingly in the View menu
