Logic Pro 12.3 is a meaningful one. Alongside the usual stability work, this release adds real creative firepower: a reworked Beat Breaker, a new granular engine in Sample Alchemy, and a fresh sound pack to go with it.

🥁 Beat Breaker Gets a Major Upgrade
Beat Breaker has always been one of Logic's most underrated creative effects. Version 12.3 makes it far more powerful:
- New filter and resonance modes, with high or low pass filtering per slice
- A panning mode for moving each slice left and right
- Randomization across all modes (or per mode), with controls for probability and intensity
If you build glitchy, rhythmic, evolving textures, this turns Beat Breaker into a much deeper sound-design tool.
🌫️ Sample Alchemy: Granular Sync and Formant Shifting
Sample Alchemy gains a new granular sync mode built for granular synthesis, plus formant shifting for reshaping the character of a sound without changing its pitch.
Apple also added a new sound pack featuring loops, one-shots, and field recordings processed with the new Granular Sync engine. It's a fast way to hear what the new tools can do.
🎚️ Flex and Smart Tempo Improvements
A few useful changes for anyone working with audio tempo:
- A new Smart Tempo pop-up in the Region Inspector lets you use Flex without file tempo (file tempo is ignored when File Tempo is switched off)
- You can now manually enter the tempo of an audio file in the Region Inspector
- Flex markers are retained when toggling Flex off and on for grouped tracks
These remove some long-standing friction when you're flexing imported audio.
🎼 Chord ID Now Reliable on Intel Macs
Chord ID now identifies chords reliably on Intel-based Macs. If you've been using Chord ID to detect harmony and drive Session Players, this fix is worth having.
⚡ Performance and Workflow Wins
- Hiding and unhiding tracks is now significantly faster
- Drum Machine Designer pads can be copied and pasted
- A new option displays Foreground Grid Lines so the grid stays visible through region content
- The Duplicate Track button is now configurable for duplicate vs. duplicate with content
🛡️ Stability and Reliability
This update also clears a long list of crash and reliability issues, including fixes around Smart Tempo Multitrack Sets, the Step Sequencer, Audio Unit scanning, and the Undo History window. If Logic has been misbehaving on your system, install this and see if it settles.
