The Progressive Rock Method Part 3

Part 3 of The Progressive Rock Method's How to Program and Edit Progressive Rock Drums takes the material covered in Part 2 to the next level and applies it to a vocal progressive rock song with several meter changes.

As in the previous tutorial, the bass drum, snare, and toms are recorded first. A discussion follows about how to use the hi-hat and ride cymbals to create a sense of continuity over complicated changes. Finally, the crashes are added.

The end result is you will see how to program a drum beat over complicated material that not only flows, but enhances the music.

  • Learn to apply a simple tracking process to complicated material
  • Discover a secret technique used by professional drummers, such as Vinnie Colaiuta, to create a compelling sense of flow over complicated meter changes
  • Concepts introduced in the first two videos of this series are expanded and applied to new material, showing you how to program drum parts that enhance your music
