Logic Pro - The Big Picture

What does Logic Pro do? Why does it exist? How the heck does it fit in to my music and audio goals?

Logic Pro is a powerful digital audio workstation responsible for Billboard-charting hits. Now, you are responsible for understanding Logic Pro and wielding its power to produce your very own masterpiece.

No more latency. Please continue.

Logic Pro Quick Start

Getting up and running with Logic Pro doesn't need to be a complicated and time-consuming process. It's pretty simple and shouldn't take longer than an hour.

Our 6-part video beginner guide is available free to all Logic Studio Training Facebook fans.

The Arrange Window

You were given a brief overview of the Arrange Window in the Logic Pro Quick Start. Now, you'll take a deeper look at the Arrange Window and what it can do.

Tracks and Channel Strips

Tracks are listed in the Arrange Area. Each Track has a corresponding Channel Strip in the Mixer.

Recording Audio

Audio recording was introduced to the original Notator Logic in 1994. The Sign by Ace of Bass was the #1 song that year. While I can't confirm that the song was referring to the emergence of computer audio recording, I can confirm that it was a breakthrough year for Logic.

Flash forward about 20 years and you've got an extremely powerful and affordable Digital Audio Workstation that's being used to create chart-topping hits by scores of major artists.

Recording MIDI

Logic Pro was created as a powerful MIDI sequencer. You'll learn how to Record MIDI, Filter MIDI Events, Multitrack MIDI Recording, Using the Caps Lock Keyboard, and much more.

Editing Audio

Editing audio in Logic Pro is extremely powerful and intuitive. You'll learn about Audio Takes, Flex Time, the Sample Editor, the Digital Factory, and much more.

Editing MIDI

Logic Pro gives you many tools to edit your MIDI. You'll learn about the Piano Roll Editor, the Event List, the Hyper Editor, the Score Editor, the Transform Window, and much more.

Mixing

To open the Mixer, use the key Command+X, choose Window > Mixer, or use Command+2. If you want to open the mixer in its own window, drag the mixer tab.

Automating the Mix

Logic allows for easy, track-based automation providing control over almost all elements of an entire mix, including volume, panning, aux send levels, as well as all parameters of plugins and software instruments.

Bouncing Your Project

All channels from a project may be rendered to a single or multiple audio files, as well as be burned directly to disc using the Bounce function. All parameters and automation are recorded in the bounce file.
