The Piano Roll Grid

Logic Pro Piano Roll Grid

MIDI notes are laid out on the Piano Roll grid. The note's vertical placement pertains to the pitch of the note - the higher the note, the higher the pitch. The note's horizontal placement indicates its start time relative to the bar-beat timeline and its length indicates how long the note sustains.

In the grid itself, black vertical lines mark bar lines and beats; and grey lines mark subdivision values. To the left, a piano keyboard is shown for note reference.
